The scents of saffron and cinnamon, cardamom and coriander, cumin, cloves and turmeric, not to mention the delicate, floral fragrance of basmati rice, all hung tan y in the atmosphere of the small dining room on a recent visit to the India Palace.

And raise a glass to the India Palace, 3315 Bardstown Road, which is making its own efforts to accommodate the entire family.

The Palace is one of those restaurants that has passed through a succession of management. The current operators make some good stuff. I rediscovered it through a friend - actually, through his daughter, who loves the lunch buffet. We went with them a month ago.

A true jewel almost hidden among Bardstown Road's fast-food joints is the India Palace Restaurant and Bar. "My whole job here is to make sure my customers are happy," said Singh, smiling… "Making your food like you want it is never a problem. If you want it hot, we'll make it hot. If you don't, we can do that, too."

Located just a stone's throw from Showcase Cinemas on Bardstown Road, India Palace offers tasty, affordable traditional Indian cuisine. Even if the movie (or the date) turns out to be a dud, the good food will ensure that your evening is still a success.
